Adventure as a Source of Inspiration

In her creative journey, Lynn sees a lot of similarities between the fears and thrills of making art and those of solo travel. Just like diving into unknown waters or thru-hiking through remote areas requires guts and facing the unknown, so does creating art. Both in adventures and art, there's always a mix of fear and excitement, uncertainty and discovery. Lynn believes that by embracing the wild unpredictability of both nature and the creative process, she finds a deeper connection to her art and a more genuine way to express her experiences.

BLUE, a Rhapsody in Blubber

blue2_horiz.jpg

During her travels, Lynn McNutt visited Toronto, ON, where she found profound inspiration at the Royal Ontario Museum's exhibit of a Blue Whale. This encounter sparked the creation of a solo piece that - while utilizing a substantial dose of humor - delves into themes of caregiving, grief, and connection. The piece features three characters whose lives intertwine through whale song, as they seek answers about life, death, and our universal bonds. The work was directed by Erika Batdorf, whom Lynn also met while studying The Batdorf Technique during her time in Toronto.

Blue, a Rhapsody in Blubber was workshopped at Theatre Lab in May 2023 and can be found on New Play Exchange. Please contact Lynn for producing opportunities.

Our society and culture frequently render older women invisible, neglecting their presence and overlooking their worth. They are either seen as grotesque or not seen at all, disregarded in favor of youth-centric ideals. Through conversations with women around the world and experiencing societies where women are celebrated, Lynn is creating a piece that aims to change this narrative, recognizing and honoring the profound wisdom and vitality older women bring to our lives.
